Facebook Trying to Trademark 'Face'

Facebook—which is already going after a site with "book" in its name—is trying to protect the first half of its name as well. The social networking giant is trying to register the word "Face" as a trademark, TechCrunch reports. The application is being opposed by Aaron Greenspan, the Harvard classmate of Mark Zuckerberg's who claimed to have helped create Facebook.

Greenspan now runs the company behind the mobile payments app FaceCash and he fears that if Facebook's trademark application succeeds, he won't be able to use the prefix for any future products without getting sued. He has applied for an extension of time to file an objection. Facebook also has no fewer than 14 applications pending to trademark the word "like."
