The website of vituperative talking head Ann Coulter suddenly became apologetic when visitors discovered a short letter by the columnist claiming that her entire career was a "sick  joke." A few blogs and media outlets picked up on Coulter's amazing mea maxima culpa—until it turned out to be the work of a hacker.

The counterfeit open letter to her readers proclaimed Coulter's inability to continue a  "charade" of a career based on "twisted logic and poorly masked bigotry." Radar's blog picked up on Coulter's seeming volte-face, stunned that she "has just been playing a character for a decade." But by late Monday night the letter was gone, replaced by more predictable Coulter content .
