UK Gave US Detroit Suspect Intel: Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown is denying allegations the UK failed to share intelligence on Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab with the US. The suspected Detroit plane bomber was included in a dossier of individuals who had made contact with extremists, and that dossier was shared with American intelligence authorities, the UK PM's spokesman said today. Abdulmutallab was said to have made "multiple communications" with Islamic radicals while studying in Britain between 2006 and 2008.

Despite his contact with radicals, Abdulmutallab was not singled out as a threat by the UK, a decision the spokesman defended: "There are a number of individuals who try and reach out to radicals and others," he told the Telegraph. ''It does not necessarily mean they are going to be planning any specific action. We are pretty certain that Abdulmutallab was radicalized outside the UK."
