The sailors described their ordeal at a news conference today, saying they were held in a “perfectly reasonable room,” where they played chess and darts and were exceedingly well nourished. “If anything, we may be a bit overweight because they were feeding us so much,” said one. They stressed the situation was psychologically taxing, however. “It wasn't pleasant when you are not in charge of your own destiny,” said a radio host caught onboard the ship. “Your mind starts playing all sorts of tricks.” And though the sailors admit veering off course to avoid oil platforms, they insist that they never ventured into waters marked as restricted on nautical charts.
