The group's statement termed the airman “missing,” and was accompanied by an image of Troy Gilbert’s military ID. The pilot was declared dead in a November 2006 crash after human remains were found on the scene. The Islamic State in Iraq, which has claimed responsibility for several major kidnappings and attacks, released a similar statement in June about three US soldiers.
