Politics | Charles Krauthammer Obama's Settlement Demands 'Dishonorable' By Kevin Spak Posted Jun 5, 2009 8:37 AM CDT Copied Jewish settlers rebuild a structure in the West Bank outpost of Maoz Esther, a hilltop site northeast of Ramallah, Thursday, June 4, 2009. (AP Photo/Dan Balilty) President Obama’s insistence that Israel stop building or expanding West Bank settlements is “dishonorable and self-defeating,” writes Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post. Hillary Clinton’s call to end “natural growth” expansions is especially ridiculous. “Is the peace process moribund because a teacher in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem is making an addition to her house to accommodate new grandchildren?” No, the peace process is moribund because Palestinian leaders are only interested in "war and terror." In his speech yesterday, Obama called the Palestinian people’s plight “intolerable,” but that’s because Palestinian leadership has “rejected every offer of independence and dignity,” not because of the Israeli settlements the US has until now supported. “Obama says he came to Cairo to tell the truth,” Krauthammer concludes. “But he uttered not a word of that.” Read These Next Officials say ICE agent who shot Renee Good had internal bleeding.
