Kim Kardashian's Christmas gifts for her children are far from endearing in the eyes of PETA. The animal rights organization is blasting the reality TV star after she revealed on Instagram that each of her four children, ages 6 to 12, received a Pomeranian puppy for Christmas. As People points out, the family already has at least three Pomeranians. PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk responded in a statement, noting "puppies are not plushies" and said Kardashian was "being rightly slammed on social media" for the ill-advised gifts. She also said Kardashian "missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups" by not adopting from a rescue.
Newkirk urged Kardashian and her sister Khloé Kardashian—who also showed off a new black Labrador puppy given to her family on Christmas—to "call PETA or a local shelter the next time" they want to expand their households. She suggested they could "make some amends" by having the kids volunteer at shelters or funding an adoption event or "spay day" to address what she called a growing problem of homeless puppies. Kim Kardashian also recently took flak for carrying a vintage elephant-skin Hermès Birkin bag in a scene from the Hulu legal drama All's Fair, per Page Six. According to PETA, the brand made a series of bags from the skin of an elephant killed on a safari in the 1980s.
