A casual walk along the Potomac River turned extraordinary when a Northern Virginia man stumbled upon what appears to be wreckage from January's deadly mid-air collision near Reagan National Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board believes the debris—including the back of a plane seat with tray table latch—may be linked to the collision between an American Airlines regional jet and an Army Black Hawk helicopter, which killed 67 people. Andrew Guevara said the debris at the edge of the river caught his attention as he was walking his dog over the weekend because of details like the tray table lock, per Fox 5 DC. "Knowing what happened back in January, I kind of logically drew the conclusion that it would be [from the crashed plane]," he tells ABC News.

The Alexandria Police Department confirmed receiving a call about the debris, which was collected by DC Harbor Patrol. The DC police, now working with the NTSB, are transferring the evidence to the agency for examination. The NTSB said it will evaluate and store the debris with other remnants from the crash and will follow the same protocol for any future discoveries. Guevara told reporters he simply wanted to ensure the wreckage was turned over to investigators, describing the debris as a piece of an event that should not be forgotten or left unattended. He said police told him there hadn't been a wreckage sighting in months, per Fox 5 DC.
