The National Women's Soccer League in the US has a major new star—at a landmark price. The Orlando Pride have signed Mexico's Lizbeth Ovalle after paying what is known in the sport as a transfer fee of $1.5 million, reports the Athletic. The Pride essentially bought out her contract from the Mexican club Tigres. The amount surpasses the previous transfer fee record of $1.3 million in women's soccer, paid by Arsenal for Olivia Smith, per the AP.
"I'm coming with the clear objective of winning titles and leaving a mark," says the 25-year-old winger. The Athletic calls Ovalle one of the best players in either North or South America. Her dynamic play at home and in international tournaments has brought her much attention, as well as the nickname "The Magician," notes the AP.
