Politics / Thomas Massie Trump Aims to Oust GOP Congressman After Criticism Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky called attacks on Iran unconstitutional By John Johnson Posted Jun 23, 2025 10:10 AM CDT Copied Rep. Thomas Massie has apparently ticked off President Trump one too many times. The president's political operation has launched a campaign to oust the Kentucky Republican, reports Axios. The 54-year-old Massie has libertarian views and a history of opposing Trump's initiatives, notes Time. Most recently, he was one of the few Republicans to publicly criticize the strikes on Iran as unconstitutional. In fact, he teamed with a Democrat before the strike to introduce a resolution barring US involvement in Iran. He's also been voting against Trump's "big beautiful bill," notes NBC News. Trump went after Massie on Truth Social over the weekend, saying he was "not MAGA, even though he says he is," and calling him "weak" and "ineffective." Trump also promised to campaign on behalf of an "American Patriot"—still to be named—who will oppose Massie in a GOP primary. The congressman is up for reelection in 2026. Massie, for his part, projected confidence he'd withstand any challenge and laughed off the Trump attack. Trump "declared so much War on me today it should require an Act of Congress," he joked on the X platform. Trump advisers Chris LaCivita and Tony Fabrizio will run the new anti-Massie Super PAC, dubbed Kentucky MAGA. (More Thomas Massie stories.) Report an error
