Two more bodies have been recovered from Lake Tahoe, bringing the death toll in Saturday's boat capsizing to eight. Just two of the 10 people on board the vessel survived; their conditions are not known, the AP reports. Even forecasters were surprised by the intensity of the storm that came up suddenly, and others on the lake at the time described a terrifying scene. "It felt like we were in a tsunami that was starting. I have never experienced anything like that," says one.

Six people are dead and two are missing after a boat carrying 10 people capsized on Lake Tahoe Saturday, authorities say. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office reported that multiple 911 calls came in around 3pm describing a vessel overturned in South Lake Tahoe amid wave heights of up to 8 feet, USA Today reports. The incident occurred near DL Bliss State Park, where officials say the group was aboard a 27-foot Chris-Craft boat. A sudden storm brought heavy swells, leading to the tragedy. Emergency crews from the Coast Guard, California State Parks, and the sheriff's office responded and began a search and rescue operation.

Of the 10 passengers, six were found dead, all of them adults. Two others were pulled from the water and taken to the hospital with injuries, Fox News reports. The search continues for the remaining two missing individuals. Authorities have not released the names or ages of the deceased, citing the need to notify next of kin. It is not clear if any children were on board or whether life jackets were in use. Winds were reportedly as high as 35mph at the time, with six- to eight-foot swells, the New York Times reports. The waves came up suddenly, and several other boats were reportedly in distress around the same time.
