Days after a public plea for him to speak up from the comfort of "semi-retirement," former President Obama has heeded the call. The 44th president on Sunday offered up a social media post, which stands in stark contrast to a rant from President Trump that appeared hours later on Truth Social, per the Daily Beast. While Trump called to "reverse the tide of Mass Destruction Migration that has turned once Idyllic Towns into scenes of Third World Dystopia" and "expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens," whom he said were being used to "cheat in elections," "grow the welfare state," and rob Americans of their jobs, Obama urged Americans to reject the framing of immigrants as "enemies."
Obama called attention to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program established during his presidency to grant the undocumented children of immigrants a renewable, two-year period of deferred action from deportation, saying it was "an example of how we can be a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws." "And it's an example worth remembering today, when families with similar backgrounds who just want to live, work, and support their communities, are being demonized and treated as enemies," Obama wrote, per ABC News. "We can fix our broken immigration system while still recognizing our common humanity and treating each other with dignity and respect. In fact, it's the only way we ever will."
