Hillary Finds Herself in Rudy's Spot

Hillary Clinton’s nomination bid suddenly resembles the plan that failed Rudy Giuliani: Like Hizzoner’s Florida firewall, Clinton must hope voters in Texas and Ohio are unaffected by a month of good news for Barack Obama. Clinton still leads polls in the big states that vote March 4, and her move is to downplay a string of Democratic victories for Obama.

Of course, the “high-risk play … may be the only maneuver she has left,” Politico’s Jeanne Cummings writes—though the candidate is suddenly putting in an effort in Wisconsin, which votes next week, the Washington Post adds. Can Clinton survive where Giuliani didn’t? Cummings allows that Hillary has points on the board: Unlike Rudy’s play, Hillary’s last stand is not also her first.
