US Drones Batter Yemen Some More

Amid continuing US concerns over al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the drone death toll in Yemen has reached 34 since July 27, by Yemeni officials' count. Yesterday, a trio of strikes killed 14 suspected militants, the BBC reports. The attacks occurred in Mareb and Hadramout provinces; they all hit cars, the AP reports, via the New York Times. Meanwhile, according to a Yemeni diplomat, the US is suspending plans to send some 100 Yemeni Guantanamo detainees to their home country. But a White House official says policy hasn't changed after Obama "lifted the moratorium on transfers in favor of a case-by-case evaluation."
