Meet the People Google Pays to Look for Awful Porn

Not everyone at Google has a cushy job, as evidenced by the disturbing story a former contractor for the company relates to BuzzFeed. His job was to search out the worst type of content imaginable found on Google sites. He estimates he looked at perhaps 15,000 child porn images, which must be removed within 24 hours and reported to authorities, each day. He was given no emotional support (minus a single therapy session Google covered), and says months of this work put him in "a really dark place."

And then, after nine months, the worker learned he would not be hired full-time by the company. (Its contractors have to be hired or sent packing after 12 months.) Even his manager seemed "shocked," but couldn't give him a reason for the decision. The contractor writes that he's since heard similar stories many times—including from people who watched disturbing YouTube videos of beheadings and, yes, more child porn from 10pm to 8am for a year and still couldn't snag a full-time job.
