US 'Milkshake Murderer' Re-Convicted in Hong Kong

American expatriate Nancy Kissel was convicted of murder once again today in Hong Kong, earning the so-called "milkshake murderer" another life sentence, the AP reports. Kissel was famously convicted in 2005 of drugging her husband's milkshake and then beating him to death with a statuette, but that conviction was thrown out last year after a judge ruled that prosecutors had introduced hearsay evidence. Her second trial ended today the same way her first one had.

Kissel's lawyer asked the judge to recommend compassion for Kissel when a review board looks at her sentence, arguing that she was driven to her crime by domestic abuse. Kissel has never denied killing her husband, but argued that it was self-defense given his abuse. Prosecutors countered that it was a premeditated crime. In their gruesome telling, Kissel slipped her husband a five-drug cocktail, then smashed his head with the statuette at least five times, before rolling his body up in a carpet and putting it in storage.
