Hillary Vulnerable in National Poll

Americans want a Democratic president, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows—but they're not as sure they want it to be Hillary Clinton. Though respondents favored a Democrat to replace President Bush, 50% to 35%, Clinton runs in a dead heat with Republican frontrunner Rudy Giuliani. “I just don't totally trust her,” said one 1990s supporter of Bill Clinton.

None of that is hurting Clinton among likely primary voters, with whom she polls at 47%, compared to Barack Obama’s 25% and John Edwards' 16%. Obama and Edwards also ran even against Giuliani. “This is an exceptionally close election,” said one Democratic pollster. Giuliani is the choice of 33% of likely GOP voters; John McCain follows with 16%.
